What color curtains go with beige walls? For a calm room, white sheers or curtains a few shades deeper than the wall in taupe, camel or greige. For warmth and character, olive green, rust or chocolate brown, which share beige's earthy base. For contrast, navy or black. Before choosing, look at the beige's undertone: a pinkish beige, a yellow beige and a grey beige each prefer different curtain colors.

Beige is a very common wall color in rentals and new builds, and the usual complaint is that it looks flat. The curtains are the cheapest way to fix that. Below: how to read your beige, then eight curtain colors with the walls each one suits.

Start With the Undertone

Hold a sheet of white printer paper against the wall in daylight. The beige will lean one way:

Your beige leansLooks likeCurtains that suit itCurtains to test carefully
Yellow or goldenSand, wheat, creamOlive, rust, camel, warm whiteCool grey, icy blue (look dull)
Pink or peachBlush beige, soft clayTerracotta, chocolate, ivory, deep greenYellow-green, mustard

Most beiges are yellow or greige. If you cannot tell, choose curtains that also lean warm-neutral (linen, flax, oatmeal): they forgive the most.

Eight Curtain Colors for Beige Walls

1. White or off-white sheers

White sheer curtains on beige walls let in all the light and give the window a soft glow. Pick an off-white or ivory rather than bright white, which can make a yellow beige look dirty by comparison. Sheers alone work for privacy by day only; pair them with a blind or a heavier second layer for bedrooms.

2. Tone-on-tone: taupe, greige or flax a few shades deeper

The most reliable choice for a calm room. Curtains two or three shades deeper than the wall frame the window without breaking the color scheme, and the difference in texture (linen against flat paint) keeps it from looking matched. A deeper taupe over a white sheer gives both privacy and light.

3. Natural linen with a visible weave

Unbleached linen curtains add texture without adding color, which makes them the safe choice in a beige room that already has a lot of pattern or wood. A loose weave filters sunlight into a warm haze. For a budget version, see our drop cloth curtains linen hack.

4. Camel, chocolate or brown

Brown curtains are beige's darker relatives, so they add depth without leaving the color family. Chocolate velvet makes a beige living room cozy in winter; camel suits a sunny, minimal room. Repeat the brown once in cushions or a wood coffee table so the curtains look planned.

5. Olive and sage green

Green and beige are one of the most natural pairs in decorating, since both sit close to colors found in nature. Olive suits a yellow or khaki beige; sage suits a greige. A green curtain over a cream sheer also looks lovely from outside. If you also have green walls elsewhere, our guide to what color curtains go with green walls covers the reverse.

6. Rust and terracotta

The warmest option, and the one that makes a flat beige room look intentional. A rust linen curtain in sunlight glows orange; a deep rust velvet looks rich in the evening. Rust works best with yellow and pink beiges and wood furniture. Keep the rest of the room cream, tan and green so the curtains are the one strong color.

7. Navy and dusty blue

Blue is the contrast color for beige, especially greige and stone. Navy curtains look tailored and suit a room with brass, white trim and wood. A softer dusty blue works in a bedroom. With a yellow beige, choose a blue with some grey in it rather than a bright one.

8. Charcoal and black

Black curtains on beige walls are a graphic, modern choice and suit greige best. They work in a room with other black accents (a lamp, picture frames, a coffee table) so the curtains do not stand alone. In a small room, charcoal is gentler than true black.

Should Curtains Be Lighter or Darker Than Beige Walls?

Either, but not the same. Curtains in exactly the wall color tend to look like a mistake rather than a choice. Lighter curtains (white, ivory) make the room airy and let the window disappear; darker curtains (taupe, brown, olive, navy) frame the window and give the room weight. In a large or sunny room, darker usually looks better; in a small or dim room, lighter.

Curtains for Beige Walls in a Bedroom

Bedrooms need blackout or a lined layer, so color shows differently. Beige or taupe lined curtains over a sheer are the calmest option. For a little color, try a color-block curtain with a deeper hem in olive or brown, which links to the bedding without a full green or brown window.

Match the Curtains to the Sofa, Not Just the Wall

The wall is only half the picture. A grey sofa against beige walls pulls toward taupe, charcoal or navy curtains; a cream or white sofa leaves every option open; a brown or leather sofa suits olive, rust or ivory. If your sofa is the problem, see what color rug goes with a brown couch for the same reasoning on the floor. Grey walls in the next room? Our curtains for grey walls guide covers them.

What do you want the curtains to do?

Hang Them So They Look Expensive

  • Mount the rod high, close to the ceiling, and wide, so the curtains cover the wall beside the window and the glass stays clear.
  • Let them touch the floor or break slightly on it.
  • Choose fullness: roughly two times the window width in fabric looks generous.
  • Layer a sheer behind a heavier panel for light by day and privacy at night.

FAQ

What color curtains go best with beige walls?

Taupe or flax a few shades deeper than the wall for a calm look; olive, rust or brown for warmth; navy or black for contrast. White sheers suit almost every beige.

Do white curtains go with beige walls?

Yes. Off-white or ivory looks softer than bright white, which can make a yellow beige look dingy beside it.

What color curtains go with beige walls and a grey sofa?

Taupe, charcoal or navy, which bridge the warm wall and the cool sofa. Greige linen is the safest single answer.

Do black curtains go with beige walls?

Yes, especially with greige walls and other black accents in the room. In a small room, charcoal is the gentler version.

What color curtains go with beige walls in a bedroom?

Lined taupe or beige over a sheer for calm, or a deep green, brown or dusty blue for a cozier room. A color-block hem adds a little color.

Should curtains match beige walls?

Not exactly. Curtains a few shades lighter or darker, or in a different texture such as linen, look intentional; an exact match tends to look flat.
